Charm and Strangeness with Heavy Quark Symmetry in Dense Matter 20m
        Chair: Sven Vahsen (UH)

        Abstract:
We study charmed and strange baryon resonances that are generated dynamically within a unitary meson-baryon coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark symmetry [1,2]. This is accomplished by extending the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa chiral Lagrangian to SU(8) spin-flavor symmetry and implementing a strong flavor symmetry breaking. The model generates dynamically resonances with negative parity in all the isospin, spin, and strange sectors with one, two, and three charm units that one can form from an s-wave interaction between pseudoscalar and vector meson multiplets with 1/2^+ and 3/2^+ baryons [3]. Our results are compared with experimental data from several facilities, such as the CLEO, Belle or BaBar Collaborations, as well as with other theoretical models. Some of our dynamically generated states can readily be assigned to resonances found experimentally, while others do not have a straightforward identification and require the compilation of more data and also a refinement of the model. Moreover, we obtain the properties of charmed pseudoscalar and vector mesons in dense matter [4] within this coupled-channel unitary effective model by taking into account Paul-blocking effects and meson self-energies in a self-consistent manner. We obtain the open-charm meson spectral functions in this dense nuclear environment, and discuss their implications on the formation of D-mesic nuclei at FAIR energies [5, 6].

J/psi reaction mechanisms and suppression in the nuclear medium 20m
        Chair: Sven Vahsen (UH)

        Abstract:
Recent studies of the interaction of vector mesons with nuclei make possible and opportune the study of the interaction of the $J/\psi$ with nuclei and the investigation of the origin of the $J/\psi$ suppression in its propagation thorough a nuclear medium. We observe that the transition of $J/\psi N$ to $VN$ with $V$ being a light vector, $\rho, \omega,\phi$, together with the inelastic channels, $J/\psi N \to \bar D \Lambda_c$ and $J/\psi N \to \bar D \Sigma_c$ leads to a particular shape of the inelastic cross section. Analogously, we consider the mechanisms where the exchanged $D$ collides with a nucleon and gives $\pi \Lambda_c$ or $\pi \Sigma_c$. The cross section has a peak around $\sqrt s=4415$ MeV, where the $J\psi N$ couples to a resonance predicted recently. We study the transparency ratio for electron induced $J/\psi$ production in nuclei at about 10 GeV and find that 30 - 40\% of the $J/\psi$ produced in heavy nuclei are absorbed inside the nucleus. This ratio is in line with depletions of $J/\psi$ though matter observed in other reactions.

D to K and D to pi FF and |V_cs| from Lattice QCD 20m
        Chair: Jason Kumar (UH)

        Abstract:
We present a new and very high statistics study of D and D_s semileptonic decay form factors on the lattice. We work with MILC N_f=2+1 lattices and use the Highly Improved Staggered Action (HISQ) for both the charm and the light valence quarks. We use both scalar and vector currents to determine the form factors f_0(q^2) and f_+(q^2) for a range of D and D_s form factors including those for D to pi and D to K semileptonic decays. By using a phased boundary condition we are able to tune accurately to q^2=0. We also compare the shape in q^2 to that from experiment, and extract the CKM matrix element |V_cs|. We show that the form factors are very insensitive to the spectator quark: D to K and D_s to eta_s form factors are essentially the same, and the same is true for D to pi and D_s to K. This has important implications when considering the corresponding B/B_s processes.

        Abstract:
D-Dbar mixing has been well established with the combination of several measurements, but so far there is no single measurement with significance over 5 standard deviations. We report the results of a new measurement of the charm parameters y_{CP} and Delta y. The analysis sensitivity is maximized by using the entire dataset collected by BABAR and D mesons produced by different mechanisms.

Precision measurements of charm hadron properties at BaBar 20m
        Chair: Marc Pelizaeus (UH)

        Abstract:
We describe precision measurements that shed light on non-perturbative strong interactions involving the charm quark. The natural width of the D*+ meson is measured with a dataset 50 times larger than that of the previous measurement, leading to significant improvement in precision. We also measure the mass, width, and several new branching fractions of the Lambda_c(2880) baryon.

        Abstract:
We report on several new results involving charmonium and charmonium-like states. This includes tight limits on the production of the charged states Z1(4050)+ and Z2(4250)+ reported by Belle, improved measurement of the X(3915), and studies involving the final states eta_c \pi+\pi- and \psi(2S)\pi+ \pi-.

Search for D^0 -> gamma gamma at BESIII 20m
        Chair: Xerxes Tata (UH)

        Abstract:
The BESIII detector, with the BESCII e+e- collider, has collected the world largest data sample, 2.89/fb, taken at sqrt(s)=3.773 GeV which is very close to the nominal mass of the psi(3770) state. As the psi(3770) decays into a pair of DDbar most of the time, a relatively clean and simple event environment is obtained, and thus, it is very interesting to search for rare decays of D mesons that are either highly suppressed or forbidden by the standard model. In this talk, I briefly review the present experimental status of rare decays of D mesons. I will then present preliminary results on D0 decays to pi0 pi0 and gamma gamma based on the BESIII data. Some future prospects of rare and forbidden charm decays at the BESIII will be also discussed.

Rare and Forbidden Charm Meson Decays at BaBar 20m
        Chair: Xerxes Tata (UH)

        Abstract:
Flavor changing neutral current decays in the charm sector are very rare within the standard model, and thus provide a unique environment for searching for new physics. We report tight upper limits on branching fractions of a variety of such processes involving charged and neutral charm mesons and baryons, including processes with lepton-number or lepton-flavor violation. In some cases our limits constrain the parameter spaces of new-physics models.

Heavy Meson Interquark Potential from the Dyson-Schwinger Equations 20m
        Chair: Xin Lou (IHEP/UT Dallas)

        Abstract:
The resolution of Dyson-Schwinger equations leads to the freezing of the QCD running coupling (effective charge) in the infrared, which is best understood as a dynamical generation of a gluon mass function, giving rise to a momentum dependence which is free from infrared divergences. We calculate the static interquark potential by assuming that it is given by a massive One Gluon Exchange Potential and compare it with phenomenological fits inspired by lattice QCD. We discuss possible physical interpretations of our results regarding heavy quarkonia spectroscopy. Reference: P.Gonzalez, V. Mathieu and V. Vento, PRD84, 114008 (2011).
