The University of Hawai'i at Manoa is an excellent institution with a long history of instrumentation and electronics development for high energy physics, with a particular recent emphasis on AI/ML for hardware implementations. While it is true that Honolulu is known for its holiday potential, the scientific leadership of UHM is substantial and we are eager to welcome members of our community to get to know other sides of Hawai'i!
We understand that the travel distance and cost may present challenges for some participants, thus we aim to provide relevant information about travel to and accommodations in Honolulu. Various efforts have been made to keep costs low, including the time of year scheduling and usage of University resources. Please find cost estimates below for your consideration.
No registration fee:
- Usage of UH lecture halls and meeting rooms after the end of the semester
- Light organization: arranged but self-paid dinner and other meals
- In case of unavailability of lunch or coffee options on campus due to closure after the semester, we may opt for a central order of lunch takeout or delivery, with direct mobile or cash payment to the organizers and no additional overhead. Consider ~$15-25 per person for lunch.
Accommodation:
There are hotels with a wide price range available especially in Waikiki. Availability and cost should not be as high as in the main holiday season yet. We especially recommend the following two options as arranged, subject to availability:
