Description

Symmetry principles are extremely powerful tools for understanding the properties of physics systems generally, including particle physics. The ideas of symmetry are critical for establishing the Standard Model of particle physics and will guide us towards future discoveries. In this talk, I will explain how to make use of the Effective Field Theory approach to systematically implement symmetry principles. I will focus on the Standard Model Effective Field Theory, a robust parameterization for physics beyond the Standard Model, and discuss its symmetry aspects that are crucial to neutrino physics, flavor physics, and the imprints of a class of beyond the Standard Model scenarios that we call non-decoupling new particles.
