After having outlined the long-standing difficulties that Einstein and others have encountered in unifying our understanding of macroscopic (classical) and microscopic (quantum) physics, I will explain in simple terms how the latest theoretical revolution, String Theory, may finally offer a surprisingly simple solution to such a profound problem.
