Description
The charmonium system is composed of a charm quark and an anti-charm quark bound by the strong force. Since its discovery forty years ago, this system has served as a kind of solar system or hydrogen atom of the strong force, allowing physicists to study the strong force in one of its simplest manifestations. In this talk I will give a brief tour of the charmonium system, from an experimentalists point of view, highlighting both what it has taught us about the strong force and the new mysteries it has presented to us.
