Gamma-ray Astrophysics with the AMS-02 experiment on the International Space Station

The AMS-02 detector operates as an external module on the International Space Station and uses the unique space environment to study the universe and its origins. The Gamma Astrophysics potential of the AMS-02 experiment will be presented, after a review of its Si-Tracker sub-detector and its laser alignment system. The combined performance of the Si-Tracker and the Electromagnetic Calorimeter of AMS-02 will provide precise gamma measurements in the GeV-TeV energy range. Together with good angular resolution, this will allow clean studies of galactic and extra-galactic sources and diffuse gamma background.
