Description

High Energy Physics experiments relay heavily on the development of advanced single photon detectors, predominantly for Particle Identification Devices.  As experiments continue to increment requirements, and adding system complexity, multiple development efforts are ongoing exploring MicroChannel Plate devices as well as and their counterparts,  the Silicon Photomultipliers - SiPMs. This talk will discuss the operation of (MCPs and SiPMs) single photon detectors, and provide the current state of the art performance information.

Since more and more these detectors are used for interdisciplinary research.  In the second part of this talk, I will provide a few examples of usage outside HEP, which do have an interesting research or usage potential.
