DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Louis E. Strigari (Texas A&M University)\n\nNew thre
e-dimensional measurements of the positions and velocities of stars\, in p
articular from the Gaia observatory\, have provided unprecedented informat
ion on the dynamics of the Milky Way and Local Group of galaxies. In this
talk I will focus on the implications of these measurements for the format
ion and evolution of the Milky Way\, M31\, and the Local Group\, and discu
ss the connection to larger scale cosmological measurements and the nature
of dark matter. I will discuss what we can expect from future Gaia data a
 nd astrometric observations.\n\nhttps://indico.phys.hawaii.edu/event/2755/
