Semper Fi? Supercurrents, R-symmetries and the Status of Fayet-Iliopoulos Terms in Supergravity

Recently, there has been a great deal of controversy concerning the consistency of Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) terms in supersymmetric theories which are also coupled to gravity. In this talk, I provide an overview of this issue, discuss the current-multiplet structures of theories with and without FI terms, and clarify the status of such terms in supergravity.
