Description
In spite of Moore’s Law, the growing computing requirements of the Physics Department are stretching the bounds of cost and availability of resources including space, electrical power and air conditioning capacity. An interesting option for meeting those needs is presented by the development of HOSC, the Hawai‘i Open Supercomputing Center. This center provides a location for user owned facilities as well as offering cluster-based computing resources itself. Takashi Sugimura of HOSC will discuss opportunities for us to collaborate to find a cost effective solution for our computing needs. David Hafner, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Services, will discuss future plans regarding electrical power consumption on the Mānoa Campus.
