Description
After the unfortunate events of Fall 2008, the LHC is approaching the 1 year anniversary of its restart, and the important steps of validation and "re-discovery" of the standard model has begun. I will review the current status of the LHC and the ATLAS detector. In particular, I will highlight the performance of the ATLAS Inner Detector (ID), which is a composite system tasked as the primary tracking volume for charged particle. I will then present some first data measurements, focusing on Kaon and Lambda production. These measurements are a good test of the calibration and alignment of the detector and can be important to help theorist tune their models for the higher energy scales of the LHC.
