by Dr David Eder (Affiliate Faculty, U. Hawaii Physics)

Pacific/Honolulu
Description
High Performance Computing (HPC) simulations of the August 2023 Lahaina fire will be discussed followed by results using the PISALE (Pacific Island Structured-AMR with ALE) code for a range of applications. These include rain and particle impacts on hypersonic vehicles, droplet dynamics of X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) heated droplets and laser generated ion beams for fusion diagnostics and qubit synthesis. An exciting new six-week summer UH program with 3-weeks at Berkeley Lab geared to undergraduate physics majors will be discussed.
