Description
The development of electron accelerators and x-ray free-electron lasers (FELs) has greatly advanced our knowledge of ultrafast dynamics by unraveling a whole realm of scientific investigation. Optical lasers play a versatile role in the machine to facilitate the generation, diagnosis, and applications of the x-ray laser. In my talk, I will discuss how to apply optical laser shaping techniques to the FEL, and demonstrate how we can use laser shaping to exploit the characteristics of the FEL to study the ultrafast and fundamental processes happening in nature.
