SPECIAL HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS SEMINAR
Hadron Collision at high energy has in the past provided us with a means of exploring the dynamics of Strong Interactions, the theory of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). For instance, in deep inelastic scattering (DIS), one can probe the point-like structure of “partons” and the phenomenon of “asymptotic freedom”. In contrast, in near-forward scattering, “confinement” plays an increasingly important role, which in principle is responsible for phenomena such as Froissart bound. In this talk, I will discuss recent progress in understanding high energy collision based on Maldecena’s Gauge-String Duality, (or “AdS/CFT” Correspondence). In a dual approach, a unified treatment for both infrared (confinement) and ultraviolet (point-like structure) of QCD can be achieved where scattering at high energy can be thought of as the exchange of a “Dual Graviton”, propagating in a higher dimensional curved (Anti-de-Sitter) space. Applications to physics at LHC and beyond, e.g., central diffractive Higgs production and UHE neutrinos, will also be presented.
