Description

SPECIAL HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS SEMINAR
The compelling experimental evidences for oscillations of solar and atmospheric neutrinos imply the existence of 3-neutrino mixing in vacuum. The phenomenology of 3-neutrino mixing, of the Dirac and Majorana CP violation in the lepton sector, as well as the current data onthe 3-neutrino mixing parameters will be reviewed. The open questions and the main goals of future research in the field of neutrino mixing and oscillations will be outlined. The physics potential of the long baseline experiments with reactor (anti)neutrinos will be discussed. The problem of determination of the nature - Dirac or Majorana, of massive neutrinos will be considered. The possibility that the CP-violation necessary for the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is due exclusively to the Majorana CP-violating phase(s) in the neutrino mixing matrix will also be briefly discussed.
