One Minute Colloquia

Description

We will continue our annual tradition of having everyone who wishes to give a one minute gloss of their interest and activity.  Prof. Doetinchem is organizing, and as usual will keep people on a tight schedule.  Please prepare one slide only and send to him.  He will need the slides in advance so we do not spend time with changing speakers. Instructions follow:

We will have a series of department-wide talks during the regular colloquium time slot (3:30-4:30 pm). Everyone will have exactly one minute (sharp) to introduce themselves and present their research to the entire department. Everyone (students, postdocs, staff, faculty) is encouraged to participate! It is a great way to meet new people in the department and see all the different things we are working on.

The format is simple:

  • precisely one slide per person (static pdf)

  • only actually present people can present

  • include your name and email address on your slide

  • in case you are part of a group effort, it would be helpful if the PI would collect the slides from the postdocs and (under)grad students and put them in a logical order and then send the slides to me

  • I will assemble one large pdf from all slides. It will be presented from my computer.

  • This year everything will be on zoom. I will share the slides, and you will then speak to your slide. Please make sure that your mic and camera are working before to minimize debugging zoom issues. It would be great if everybody could join with video to see a face with the slides. Cameras ON, microphones OFF please.

The entire slide show will be posted on the department website, so please don't include anything you don't want to be made public. Please send your slides to me (philipvd@hawaii.edu) by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 22, with the phrase "1-minute slide" in the subject line.
