Description
BNCT (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy) is a relatively new (although the idea existed for long time) radiation therapy of cancer disease. It utilizes alpha particle emitted in the neutron-boron interaction. Boron10 must be delivered to the tumor before neutron beam hits the tumor. In my Unit in OIST (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology) we are working in the following research areas in connection with BNCT: 1. Accelerator technology-- -- ion source, Li target, RFQ et. 2. Detector technology for imaging-- -DOPECT (Double Photon Emission Computer Tomography), Compton camera, etc. 3. Drug delivery system-- -- nanoparticle, double emulsion etc. 4. CSC (Cancer Stem Cell) hypothesis-- -- delivery of drug specifically to CSC (both in vitro and in vivo)
