This talk will be a review of the free electron laser (FEL) research and development at UH. After an introduction and descriptions of the major subsystems of the UH FEL, a short review of the Free Electron Laser Inverse-Compton InterAction (FELICIA) project, the most recent active project at UH FEL lab, and the successful completion of its initial phases will follow. Next, the current status of the program, required maintenance, and desired upgrades is summarized, and possible directions for future research is introduced. Finally, the unique advantages of the FEL research at UH, the possibility and requirements of running the system continuously, and operating the lab as a user facility for at least part of the year is reviewed.
